Teenage car insurance

Teenage car insurance is among the most expensive types of car insurance as young drivers are traditionally known as high-risk drivers and are demanded to pay extra premium. Teenager car insurance rates are based on how likely it is to get into a crash. Statistically, young drivers are more likely to be involved in an accident which increases the probability of having higher claims. Speed driving often connected with car accidents is said to be particularly popular among young male teenage drivers. And although it might not be true of all young men, this behavior is representative for the given demographic group, which makes claim costs higher. The age group representing the highest risk among young drivers is the male teenagers. Being the group with the highest claims frequency, it also has more expensive claims.

Several factors contributing to the higher cost of teenage car insurance policies

The higher accident frequency in the teenage male drivers group is due to the fact that their vehicles tend to be older and less maintained. Teenagers are often financially dependent on their parents. This often makes them unable to ensure the good maintenance of their cars which in turn makes the cars more likely to break.

• Another factor contributing to the higher average cost of insurance claims is the fact that in this demographic group there is a lower than average car ownership. Again, the financial pressure means that lots of teenagers cannot afford to buy a car. Often the car owner, who is most likely to be a student, has to transport a number of friends around. This is of particular concern to car insurers due to the risk of overloading.

• The personal injury aspect side is probably the most expensive aspect of car insurance by far. In case of a big accident, the number of passengers is determinative for the cost of the insurance claim. Passengers are particularly important as they are considered third parties in the event of an accident. The compensation opportunities for the driver are usually limited. The number of passengers is also connected to the overloading of the vehicle as an overloaded car is less stable and more likely to break thus increasing the risk of an accident.
